Including their iconic “silver bullet” aluminum exteriors and high-quality craftsmanship.

Despite its lower cost, however, the Basecamp 16 doesn’t skimp on quality or features, as the trailer has everything you’d expect from an Airstream travel trailer.
Designed for the adventurer at heart, its compact design makes it perfect for solo travelers or couples looking for a getaway.
Airstream Basecamp 16 Floorplan
The exterior boasts an aluminum shell, ensuring durability and a timeless look.
The wrap-around panoramic windows, a hallmark of the brand, also offer breathtaking views of the surrounding nature.
On the inside, it’s amazing what Airstream was able to do with such a small space, as every square inch of its limited footprint was utilized.
From the convertible rear dinette booth to the compact yet fully functional kitchenette.
You have everything you need for a comfortable getaway into the backcountry.
Speaking of the backcountry, the 16X trim level steps it up a notch with additional rugged features ideal for those venturing further off the beaten path.
With a 3-inch lift kit, Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires, large front stone guards, and an enclosed aluminum insulated heated underbelly.
One minor drawback of the Basecamp, however, is that both the 16 and 16X come with a 2-piece wet bath, which combines the shower and toilet together.
An amenity that requires some getting used to but is invaluable for space-saving.

Second Cheapest: Airstream Bambi 16RB
Quick Specs
- Average Cost: $60,000
- Length: 16 Feet 1 Inch
- Dry Weight: 3,000 Pounds
- Sleeping Capacity: 4
- Bathroom: 2-Piece Wet Bath
The Airstream Bambi 16RB is the second cheapest Airstream, with an average price of $60,000.
It’s also one of the most popular models that Airstream makes.
The smallest in the lineup, the Airstream Bambi does a perfect job of distilling the Airstream experience into a compact lightweight form.
With its gleaming hand-riveted aluminum exterior, the Bambi 16RB (Rear Bed) maintains the iconic Airstream appearance that makes it timeless.
As impressive as the outside is though the inside is where you really start to appreciate Airsteam’s craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Airstream Bambi 16RB Floorplan
Because when you enter the Bambi 16RB, you are immediately struck by its thoughtful layout and design.
Capable of sleeping up to four, thanks to its convertible dinette booth and rear-fixed bed, the 16RB offers a cozy retreat after a long day of exploration.
The kitchen in the Bambi 16RB is designed for functionality without compromising aesthetics.
Equipped with a two-burner gas stove, microwave, and refrigerator; preparing meals is no problem in this compact camper.
Unfortunately, like the Basecamp series, the Bambi 16RB has a two-piece wet bath, with a combined shower and toilet, which might be a bummer for some.
However, you have to keep in mind that this travel trailer is only 16 feet 1 inch long, which means that the interior footprint is more like 13 feet.
So some sacrifices have to be made when building out a micro camper.
Also similar to the Basecamp, the single-axle Bambi 16RB offers large panoramic windows at the front of the trailer, which allows you to bring the outside in while camping.
At $60,000 the Airstream Bambi 16RB is the epitome of luxury in a compact package.
Combining the brand’s legacy of craftsmanship with modern amenities.
So for those looking to enter the world of Airstream without the hefty price tag, the Bambi 16RB is an excellent choice.

- Length: 20 Feet 2 Inches

A logical evolution from its smaller sibling, the Basecamp 16; the Basecamp 20 brings added space and features to the RV.
Walking into the Basecamp 20, it’s easy to see the difference between the 16 and the 20, as this model offers so much more interior space.
Starting with its expanded sleeping capacity.
As the Basecamp 20 and 20X are able to sleep four at a time, thanks to its convertible front and rear dinette spaces.
Making it the perfect choice for adventurous families of four looking for a small camper.
Airstream Basecamp 20 Floorplan
A feature that’s the same on both the Basecamp 16 and 20 though is the wet bath, as both campers offer pretty much an identical two-piece wet bath.
Which as stated above is not ideal but a necessary sacrifice if you want to keep the size and weight down.
Also similar to the smaller Basecamp 16X, the Basecamp 20X is the rugged counterpart of the Basecamp 20.
Tailored for those with a more adventurous spirit, it boasts a 3-inch lift kit, Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires, large front stone guards, and an enclosed aluminum-insulated and heated underbelly.
Making the 20X better equipped to handle the more challenging terrains often found in the backcountry.
Overall, the Basecamp 20 makes a great choice for those looking for a more affordable Airstream that excels in both off-road and off-grid capability without sacrificing interior space.
As the Basecamp 20 combines the compactness and agility of the Basecamp 16 with added space and amenities, all while keeping the price reasonable.

- Length: 19 Feet 1 Inch
- Dry Weight: 3,650 Pounds

The fourth cheapest Airstream is the Bambi 19CB.
Stepping up in size from the Bambi 16RB, the Bambi 19CB (Corner Bed) offers additional space and amenities, thanks to the trailer’s extra three feet of length.
Making it an attractive choice for those who want a bigger trailer but want to avoid Airstream’s larger more expensive models.
As the Bambi 19CB has a length of 19 feet 1 inch, a dry weight of 3,650 pounds, and an average price of $66,000.
Placing it squarely in the compact lightweight camper category and making it one of the most affordable Airstreams available.
Airstream Bambi 19CB Floorplan
Despite its more compact size and affordable price though, the Bambi 19CB offers maximum space and comfort.
Thanks to its innovative corner bed layout which not only saves space but also offers lots of convenience.
Next to the corner bed is the camper’s three-piece dry bath, which features a separate shower, toilet, and bathroom vanity.
Making it the first Airstream on this list to have a dry bathroom and one of the smallest campers available with a dry bath.
The rest of the trailer is dedicated to living space, which includes a convertible dinette that serves as both a dining area and an extra sleeping space.
As well as a fully equipped kitchen with a large refrigerator and plenty of storage space.
From a practical standpoint, the Bambi 19CB is designed with ease of use and towability in mind.
Striking a balance between comfort, functionality, and affordability within the Airstream lineup, which is why for many, the Bambi 19CB represents Airstream’s sweet spot.

- Bathroom: 3-Piece Dry Bath
The final cheapest Airstream on this list is yet another Bambi, as the Airstream Bambi 20FB has an average cost of $71,500, making it the fifth cheapest Airstream.
Expanding upon the Bambi line, the 20FB (Front Bed) is the third smallest Bambi taking features from its smaller counterparts and providing a slightly larger layout that emphasizes both space and comfort.
With an extra foot in length, this 20-foot travel trailer floor plan provides RVers with a bit more room as well as improved amenities.
Airstream Bambi 20FB Floorplan
The most noticeable of which is the positioning of the bed at the trailer’s front.
Which offers a unique panoramic view right from the comfort of your bed, thanks to its wrap-around windows at the front of the trailer.
Beyond its front bed layout though the other stand-out feature of this budget-friendly Airstream is its kitchen area.
As the Bambi 20FB offers a large rear L-shaped campside kitchen.
Which is one of the nicest and largest kitchens you’ll find in a 20-foot travel trailer.
Thanks to ample counter and cabinet space, a stainless steel double-bowl sink, a larger refrigerator, and even a microwave oven.
Also, another feature worth highlighting on the Bambi 20FB is that it offers a full dry bath.
With a separate shower, toilet, and bathroom vanity, which is always a nice upgrade from a wet bath often found on smaller campers.
Overall, the Bambi 20FB offers the ideal compromise between the extra space and amenities found on larger models and the cheaper prices found on smaller ones.
Because while there’s nothing “cheap” about a $70,000 trailer, this camper offers extra space and features at a fraction of the cost of Airstream’s larger models, which often run well over $100,000.

Is Airstream Affordable?
While this blog post has focussed on the cheapest Airstreams, this does not necessarily mean their “cheap” or affordable.
Because whether something is cheap or affordable is subjective.
As it depends more on your financial situation than the price of the RV.
However, for most, even the cheapest Airstreams, which usually start around $50,000 new are anything but affordable.
Especially when you compare their price to other travel trailers, as Airstreams are often double or even triple the price of comparable-sized travel trailers.
How Does the Price of an Airstream Compare to Other Travel Trailers?
Make/Model | Average Cost (New) | Length |
---|---|---|
Forest River R-Pod | $22,000 – $33,000 | 15′ – 25′ |
Jayco Jay Flight | $22,000 – $45,000 | 25′ 8″ – 37′ 10″ |
Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro | $23,000 – $28,000 | 15′ 8″ – 21′ 2″ |
Winnebago Micro Minnie | $25,000 – $35,000 | 19′ 5″ – 21′ 5″ |
Forest River Salem | $30,000 – $40,000 | 26′ 11″ – 38′ 11″ |
Grand Design Imagine | $40,000 – $50,000 | 28′ 11″ – 36′ 11″ |
Lance Travel Trailer | $45,000 – $75,000 | 19′ 8″ – 29′ 10″ |
Airstream Basecamp | $50,000 – $65,000 | 16′ 2″ – 20′ 2″ |
Airstream Bambi | $60,000 – $75,000 | 16′ 1″ – 21′ 11″ |
Airstream Flying Cloud | $100,000 – $135,000 | 23′ 11″ – 31′ 2″ |
Is Airstream Overpriced?
Much like affordability, whether Airstreams are “overpriced” is subjective and depends on several factors, including personal priorities, financial situation, and comparison criteria.
However, I would argue that even though Airstreams are some of the most expensive RVs available, they are not overpriced.
For the reasons I’ve outlined below.
Why Airstreams are Not Overpriced
- Quality and Craftsmanship: Airstreams are known for their high-quality construction, durability, and attention to detail. This level of craftsmanship helps to justify the higher price tag.
- Resale Value: While they do depreciate like all RVs, Airstreams tend to hold their value better than many other travel trailer brands, making them a better long-term investment.
- Iconic Design: While there are definitely cheaper campers, nothing compares to an Airstream, because of its unique rounded aluminum design.
- Amenities and Features: Airstreams often come with high-end finishes and amenities as well as upgraded appliances, which further justify the price.
- Brand Legacy: While other RV brands might offer Airstream’s quality, no other brand rivals Airstream’s brand legacy. As there’s a certain prestige and community associated with owning an Airstream, which adds value.
Is an Airstream a Good Investment?
Airstreams like all RVs depreciate over time, so it’s hard to make the argument from a financial standpoint that Airstreams make a good investment.
However, there’s a difference between a good financial investment and a good lifestyle investment.
Because while Airstreams may not make the best financial investment they make one of the best lifestyle investments.
As they offer one of the best ways to travel and enjoy all the national and state parks this country has to offer.
Even from a financial standpoint, however, when compared to other RV brands, Airstreams tend to fare better.
Even when you factor in their higher price, for two main reasons.
The first of which is their higher build quality and improved durability.
As Airstreams typically last for decades with proper care, while other less expensive RVs often only last 10 years.
The other reason is that Airstreams tend to have better resale value.
Because while Airstreams are subject to depreciation like all RVs, they tend to hold their value better compared to other RV brands.
Which can make them a better investment over time.
How Much Does an Airstream Cost Based on Length?
One thing you might have noticed from the above cheapest Airstreams is that size tends to have a direct correlation with price.
As it’s no coincidence that the cheapest Airstream also happens to be the smallest.
This is because, as is the case with most RVs, the smaller the Airstream the cheaper it will generally be, while the larger it is the more expensive it will generally be.
Because of this, we thought we would highlight some of the most popular Airstream lengths and their corresponding average price.
To give you a better idea of how much an Airstream might cost based on its overall length.
Average New Airstream Price Based on Length
- 16-Foot: $50,000 – $60,000
- 20-Foot: $65,000 – $85,000
- 22-Foot: $70,000 – $90,000
- 25-Foot: $90,000 – $110,000
- 27-Foot: $110,000 – $130,000
- 28-Foot: $115,000 – $135,000
