What Affects the Weight of a Casita Travel Trailer?

While casita makes 5 different models of their trailer including the Spirit, the Independence, the Heritage, the Freedom, and the Liberty, the model of the trailer really doesn’t have that much of an impact on the weight of the trailer.

However, there are three factors that do impact the overall weight of a Casita trailer, which include the length of the trailer, whether or not the trailer is a standard or deluxe version, and how the trailer is optioned.

Casita Trailer Length

Casita currently makes two different lengths of their trailer, including a 16-foot length and a 17-foot length.

The 16-foot Casita trailer has a dry weight between 1,970 and 2,185 pounds, while the 17-foot Casita trailer has a dry weight between 2,210 and 2,480 pounds.

This means that on average the 17-foot Casita trailer will weigh 268 more pounds compared to the 16-foot Casita.

Standard or Deluxe Version

There is also two main versions of each model of the Casita, which includes the standard and deluxe version.

The standard version of the Casita has a dry weight between 1,970 and 2,210 pounds, while the deluxe version of the Casita has a dry weight between 2,185 and 2,480 pounds.

This means on average that the deluxe version of the Casita trailer will weigh 242 pounds more compared to the standard version of the Casita.

Casita Trailer Options

And the final factor that can have an impact on the weight of a Casita trailer is how the camper is optioned.

As available options such as a weight-distribution hitch, electric tongue jack, and awning can have a big impact on the overall weight of the camper.

How Much Does a Casita 13 Weigh?

The 13-foot Casita travel trailer has a dry weight of 1,785 pounds, however, this does not account for propane, water, and cargo you might load inside the trailer.

As a fully-loaded 13-foot Casita travel trailer will generally weigh between 2,000 and 2,300 pounds, depending on the amount of cargo loaded into the trailer.

So if you’re trying to decide if you can tow a 13-foot Casita trailer with your current vehicle.

Make sure you use the fully-loaded weight of the Casita trailer when deciding, as this is a much better representation of the true weight of the trailer.

Also, remember that you never want to max out your tow vehicle and always want to leave a little cushion.

Does Casita Make a 13 Foot Trailer?

It might seem a bit odd to ask the question of whether or not Casita makes a 13-foot trailer, right after we just told you the weight of one but it’s worth asking because the answer might surprise you.

Casita used to make a 13-foot version of the Casita trailer called the Patriot.  However, in 2017, Casita discontinued the 13-foot Casita trailer.

So if want to buy a 13-foot trailer, you will either need to buy a used 13-foot Casita or buy a Scamp 13  trailer as Scamp still makes a new 13-foot trailer.

How Much Does a 17 Foot Casita Travel Trailer Weigh?

The 17-foot Casita travel trailer has a dry weight of between 2,210 and 2,480 pounds, depending on whether it’s the standard or deluxe version.

But as with all travel trailers, the dry weight is not the best representation of the true weight of the trailer, if you’re trying to determine if your vehicle can tow a particular trailer.

As the fully-loaded trailer weight is a much better indicator of true weight.

And because of this, you really want to pay attention to the fully loaded weight of the 17-foot Casita trailer, which usually ranges from 3,000 to 3,500 pounds once fully-loaded with cargo.

 How Tall are Casita Trailers?

Casita travel trailers have an exterior height of 8 feet 11 inches and an overall width of 6 feet 8 inches, which makes them super easy to tow and manage as well as see down the side of the trailer while traveling.

Ensuring that even the most novice of RV drivers will be comfortable towing a compact Casita trailer.

But despite its small compact size, there is still plenty of room to move around inside the trailer thanks to its 6-foot 2-inch interior ceiling height and curved design which helps to maximize the interior space of the trailer.

How Long is a Casita?

Casita travel trailers are either 13, 16, or 17 feet long.

Making the Casita one of the shortest and most compact campers currently on the road today.

However, if you want a new Casita trailer you will have to choose between either the 16 or 17-foot length, as Casita discontinued their 13-foot model in 2017.

Can a Subura Outback Tow a Casita?

The Subura Outback has a max tow capacity of between 2,700 and 3,500 pounds depending on the version and how it’s equipped.

While a fully loaded Casita travel trailer will weigh between 2,5000 and 3,500 pounds depending on the length and version of the trailer.

This means that it might be possible to tow a Casita trailer with a Subura Outback if you have an Outback on the high end of the max tow capacity and a Casita trailer on the low-end of the weight range.

Just remember that you never want to max out your vehicle’s towing capacity.

And that a good rule of thumb to keep in mind when towing is the “80 rule”, which states that you never want to tow more than 80% of your vehicle’s max tow capacity to help avoid premature damage to your tow vehicle and to give yourself some cushion.

So if you own a Subura Outback that has a max tow capacity of 3,500 pounds, you ideally shouldn’t pull a trailer heavier than 2,800 pounds.
