How Much Does a Scamp Trailer Weigh?

Scamp Trailer

One of the biggest advantages of Scamp trailers is how compact and lightweight they are, which allow them to be towed by a wide variety of vehicles.

But if you’re trying to decide if your current vehicle can tow one, you might be wondering, what the specific weight of a Scamp trailer is?

The 13-foot Scamp trailer has a dry weight of 1,200 to 1,600 pounds depending on options.  While the 16-foot Scamp has a dry weight of 1,750 to 2,600 pounds and the 19-foot Scamp has a dry weight of 2,000 to 2,900 pounds depending on options.

But if your curious about what affects the weight of a Scamp trailer and other specs related to the Scamp trailer, keep reading, as we provide a complete breakdown of the entire Scamp trailer line-up.

The Complete Scamp Trailer Line-Up

Scamp currently makes three different models of the Scamp trailer, including a 13-foot model, a 16-foot model, and a 19-foot model.

But the thing to keep in mind about Scamp trailers is that they are ordered directly from the manufacturer, which differs from other RV brands such as Forest River or Winnebago, where you typically just pick a trailer from available inventory on an RV lot.

And because of this direct-to-consumer approach, every Scamp trailer is unique and built to order for each individual customer.

This is why when discussing the weight of a Scamp trailer, you often use a weight range as opposed to a specific weight, as each individual Scamp can have a slightly different weight depending on the options chosen for that specific Scamp trailer.

13-Foot Scamp Trailer

13 Foot Scamp Trailer

The smallest and lightest trailer that Scamp makes is the 13-foot Scamp Trailer, which is often what most people picture when they think of a Scamp trailer.

And for good reason, as there are more 13-foot Scamp trailers on the road today than any other model of Scamp.

How Much Does a 13-Foot Scamp Trailer Weigh?

The 13-foot Scamp trailer has a dry weight of 1,200 to 1,500 pounds for the standard version and a dry weight of 1,300 to 1,600 pounds for the deluxe version depending on how the trailer is optioned out.

However, it’s important to keep in mind when deciding on whether or not your vehicle can tow a 13-foot Scamp, that a fully-loaded 13-foot Scamp trailer will often have a weight of 2,000 to 2,200 pounds.

As no one tows a completely empty Scamp trailer behind their tow vehicle when going camping.

Other Specs of the 13-Foot Scamp Trailer

  • Height:  7 Feet 6 Inches
  • Width:  6 Feet 8 Inches
  • Interior Ceiling Height: 6 Feet 3 Inches

13-Foot Scamp Layouts / Floorplans

There are two main layouts or floorplans for the 13-foot Scamp trailer.

Both layouts feature a rear convertible dinette booth, a small center kitchenette, as well as a small wardrobe closet.

But where the two layouts differ is in their sleeping capacity and optional bathroom.

As Layout 1 of the 13-foot Scamp trailer, has bunk beds in the front, allowing the small camper to sleep two adults and two children at the same time but lacks a bathroom.

While Layout 2 gets rid of the bunk bed option and replaces it with a small wet bath, giving the trailer a bathroom but reducing the sleeping capacity to just two.

How Much Does a 13-Foot Scamp Trailer Cost?

Because Scamp trailers are built to order direct from the factory, the price of a 13-foot Scamp trailer can fluctuate.

However, the standard 13-foot Scamp trailer without a bathroom will usually cost around $15,000, while the deluxe 13-foot Scamp trailer with a bathroom will usually cost anywhere from $18,000 to $22,000 depending on options.

16-Foot Scamp Trailer

16 Foot Scamp Trailer

The 13-foot Scamp trailer is one of the lightest and smallest stand-up travel trailers you can buy and great for campers that are looking for an ultra-light compact camper.

But due to its smaller size and lack of sleeping capacity, the 13-foot Scamp trailer is not always the best choice for families.

Luckily though Scamp makes a 16-foot model of the Scamp trailer, which offers a lot more interior space as well as sleeping capacity for those campers that need a larger trailer.

How Much Does a 16-Foot Scamp Trailer Weigh?

The 16-foot Scamp trailer has a dry weight of 1,750 to 2,000 pounds for the standard version and a dry weight of 2,200 to 2,600 pounds for the deluxe version depending on how it’s optioned out.

Remember though that the dry weight of a trailer and the actual weight of a trailer can be quite different, once fully loaded with cargo, gear, water, and batteries.

As a fully loaded 16-foot Scamp trailer, will usually weigh between 3,000 and 3,400 pounds.

Other Specs of the 16-Foot Scamp Trailer

  • Length:  16 Feet
  • Height:  7 Feet 10 Inches
  • Width:  6 Feet 8 Inches
  • Interior Ceiling Height: 6 Feet 3 Inches

16-Foot Scamp Layouts / Floorplans

There are seven different layouts or floorplans to choose from in the standard and deluxe versions of the 16-foot Scamp trailer.

With each offering various sleeping capacities, storage spaces, eating spaces, and bathroom options.

However, every 16-foot Scamp camper has a convertible four-person dinette booth at the rear of the trailer, a small kitchenette that includes a small icebox or fridge, a two-burner propane stove, and a small kitchen sink, as well as some type of storage closet.

Below are two of the more popular layouts of the 16-foot Scamp camper.

How Much Does a 16-Foot Scamp Trailer Cost?

As is the case with the 13-foot Scamp trailer, the 16-foot Scamp trailer price can fluctuate quite a lot depending on the version, the layout, and how the camper is optioned.

However, the 16-foot Scamp trailer will usually start at around $17,000 for a basic bare-bones camper with no bathroom and can cost as much as $25,000 for a deluxe fully loaded version with a bathroom.

19-Foot Scamp Trailer

19 Foot Scamp Trailer

The largest Scamp trailer is also the most unknown, as most people aren’t even aware that Scamp makes a 19-foot 5th wheel version of their Scamp trailer.

And while this 5th wheel Scamp won’t be for most campers, it’s still a pretty cool little camper that keeps the weight down despite its larger 5th wheel size.

In fact, this Scamp 5th wheel is the lightest 5th wheel that I’m aware of by a long shot, as most 5th wheels have a dry weight the starts at over 7,000 pounds.

How Much Does a 19-Foot Scamp Trailer Weigh?

The 19-foot Scamp trailer has a dry weight of 2,000 to 2,4000 pounds for the standard version and a dry weight of 2,400 to 2,900 for the deluxe version depending on options.

Once the 19-foot Scamp is fully loaded, however, it will usually have a weight of 3,200 to 3,600 pounds

But remember as is the case with all fifth-wheel trailers, not all of this weight will be resting on the axle of the Scamp, due to its 5th wheel design, as the 19-foot 5th wheel Scamp has a hitch weight of 400 pounds.

Other Specs of the 19-Foot Scamp Trailer

  • Length:  19 Feet
  • Height:  8 Feet 10 Inches
  • Width:  6 Feet 8 Inches
  • Interior Ceiling Height: 6 Feet 3 Inches
  • Sleeping Capacity:  4 or 6 (Depending on Layout)
  • Bathroom:  Wet Bath

19-Foot Scamp Layouts / Floorplans

The 19-foot Scamp trailer has three different layouts or floorplans to choose from including one layout option in the standard version and two layout options in the deluxe version.

But unlike the 13-foot and 16-foot Scamp layouts, all floorplans in the 19-foot 5th wheel model have a wet bath as well as a sleeping capacity for at least 4 campers.

In addition, all 5th wheel Scamp layouts offer additional kitchen counter space, more interior room, as well as additional storage space compared to the 13-foot and 16-foot Scamp layouts.

Below is the standard 5th wheel layout that Scamp offers.

How Much Does a 19-Foot Scamp Trailer Cost?

It probably comes as no surprise that the 19-foot Scamp trailer is the most expensive trailer that Scamp makes, due to its larger size.

As the 19-foot Scamp trailer starts at around $20,000 for the standard version with minimal options, while the deluxe version fully loaded can cost as much as $30,000.

Optional Equipment that Affects the Weight of a Scamp Trailer

As mentioned throughout this article, optional equipment on the Scamp trailer can often have a big impact on its overall weight.

Which is why the same length and version of a Scamp trailer can often have a 300 to 400 pound difference in weight.

Because while Scamp trailers do come with a lot of standard features, they also have a lot of optional features.

As Scamp realizes that not every camper wants or needs the same features or wants to pay for them.

However, a few optional features on this list will probably surprise you, such as the air conditioner and the awning, as these types of features typically come standard on trailers from other RV manufacturers.

  • Three Speed Roof Fan
  • Roof-Mount Air Conditioner
  • Heat Strip for Roof Air
  • 16000 BTU Furnace
  • 8-Foot Awning
  • 12 Volt Electric Range Hood
  • Electric Brakes
  • Dual Propane Tanks
  • Gas and Electric Hot Water Heater
  • Vinyl Floor or Deluxe Carpet
  • 12 Volt Water Pump and Grey Tank

Can a Scamp Trailer Fit in a Garage?

While the 6 foot 8 inch width of a Scamp trailer would not be an issue for either a single or double garage door.

Scamp trailers will not fit in a standard garage, due to the height of a Scamp, as all Scamp trailers are over 7 feet tall, while a standard garage door is usually only 7 feet high.

Which means a standard garage door will not provide enough clearance to park a Scamp trailer inside the garage.

Who Else Makes an Ultra-Lightweight Fiberglass Trailer?

Scamp isn’t the only RV manufacturer that makes an ultra-lightweight fiberglass stand-up camper.

As Casita Travel Trailers also makes an extremely lightweight fiberglass trailer as well.
