12 Best Small Motorhomes (Small in Size, Big on Comfort)

Best Small Motorhomes

Motorhomes are one of the best ways to travel the country, as they offer unmatched comfort.

One of their biggest drawbacks though, is their large size, which makes them more challenging to maneuver, handle, and park.

The good news, however, is that there are plenty of small motorhomes to choose from today that provide all the features of their larger counterparts just in a more compact package. Offering the perfect blend of comfort, maneuverability, and efficiency.

Gone are the days when “motorhome” meant a gas-guzzling giant that was a nightmare to park. Today’s top small motorhomes use clever designs that maximize space without sacrificing the comforts of home.

In this small motorhome guide, we’ll tour the 12 best small motorhomes on the market, from nimble Class B vans to luxurious compact Class As.

We’ll explore how these mini marvels cater to different needs – be it the best small motorhomes for couples, families looking for adventure, or seniors desiring an easy-to-handle rig.

Understanding Small Motorhomes (Class B, B+, C, & A)

Before we look at the best small motorhomes we must first define what a small motorhome is.

What Qualifies as a Small Motorhome?

In the RV world, “small” typically refers to motorhomes under 25 feet in length, although anything under 30 feet could also be considered small.

This range gives us plenty of options to explore, from ultra-compact campervans to more spacious yet still manageable rigs like small Class C and A motorhomes.

What are the Benefits of Small Motorhomes?

Compact motorhomes offer several unique benefits over their larger counterparts, including:

  • Easier to drive and maneuver, especially in cities or tight campgrounds
  • Better fuel efficiency, saving you money on long trips
  • More camping options, as they can fit into spots larger RVs can’t
  • Lower purchase and maintenance costs compared to larger motorhomes
  • Easier to store when not in use

Types of Small Motorhomes

When it comes to the best small motorhomes, there’s no one-size-fits-all.

Because of this, the RV industry has developed several distinct classes to cater to different needs, preferences, and travel styles. Each type offers its own unique blend of features, space utilization, and driving experience.

  • Class B: Often called campervans, these are built on a van chassis like the Ford Transit. They’re the smallest and most fuel-efficient.
  • Class B+: A step up from Class B, offering a bit more space without sacrificing maneuverability. Still built on a Van chassis but utilizes a cutaway body similar to a Class C.
  • Class C: Recognized by their large over-the-cab-bunk, typically built on truck chassis, these offer more room than Class Bs but are still compact.
  • Small Class A: The babies of the Class A family, offering luxury amenities in a smaller footprint.

Who are Small Motorhomes Best Suited for?

The great thing about small motorhomes is that they’re incredibly versatile, which makes them perfect for a variety of RVers, including:

  • Solo travelers craving freedom
  • Adventure-seeking duos
  • Couples that are embracing minimalist travel
  • Small families looking for adventure
  • Seniors desiring easy-to-handle rigs
  • Weekend warriors who want to hit the road at a moment’s notice
  • Full-timers who prefer a minimalist lifestyle

Remember, the best small motorhome for you depends on your specific needs and travel style. Whether you’re eyeing mini motorhomes for quick trips or looking for small motorhomes with bathrooms for extended stays, there’s a compact RV with your name on it.

In the following sections, we’ll explore the best-in-class options in each class that prove size isn’t everything in the world of RVing!
